Hello

I am a licensed attorney in real life, but in leisure, I avoid courtrooms in favor of small towns with quirky townsfolk and way too many murders per capita.  My love languages include pasta and lounging in front of a good British TV mystery, but I married an unrealistically fit man whose love languages include partner workouts and signing up for half marathons.  Together, we're raising three children and one dog, Sully, whose large size is inversely proportional to his intelligence.  I love proper grammar, stickers, fountain Coke Zeros (McDonald's are the best), and sleeping under a mountain of blankets.

My Story

I grew up in a small Indiana town.  One of the few places I was allowed to walk alone was our town library.  I wore a path between our front door and the mystery section.  I devoured The Bobbsey Twins and Nancy Drew.  I resisted The Hardy Boys - icky boys! - but gave up when I ran out of Nancy Drew.  I moved into thrillers in young adulthood.  Once our kids arrived, I realized that I wanted the mystery, but with a humorous vibe instead of a gritty one.  I discovered M.C. Beaton, Joanne Fluke, and Libby Klein and never looked back!

While I read mysteries as a child, I wrote about mermaids.  I found some of those stories recently and they were....worthy of being under the sea.  I started writing again in 2021, but left mermaids behind and tried my hand at cozies.  You may be thinking - Meredith, that was 5 years ago and you still don't have anything finished.  Did I mention that I have children? Yeah, between my full-time job, my husband's wonky work schedule, and trying to keep three kids alive - one who does things like hanging from ceiling fans and teaching our newfoundland mix how to overturn trash cans - those moments were few and far between. I refocused in 2025 and here we are.  I'm knee deep in the muddy middle of my first cozy mystery - working to a self-imposed deadline.  I see light at the end of the tunnel.  Time will tell if that light is a finished manuscript or the South Shore Line train coming to finish me off.
